Poyela Baishakh was celebrated on April 23, 2010 with colourful festivities and special programmes to usher in the Bangla New Year and honour the diversity of the Bangla culture at the Beaconhouse Dhaka Campus.

Families and friends were invited to the event; the students and staff had set up food stalls, fun games, dress material and toys for sale, and arranged for song dedications as well. A special cultural programme was staged with songs, recitations and dances as an ode to the Bangla culture.

Poyela Baishakh is the Bengali New Year and it coincides with the New Year`s Days of numerous Southern Asian calendars.
Social and cultural organisations celebrate the day with cultural programmes, and newspapers publish special supplements, and special programmes are aired on the radio and television.

Pohela Baishakh also marks a day of cultural unity without distinction between class and religion.
